In a tragic incident on Thursday, a man was killed after being run over by a Delhi Police PCR van in the Thana Mandir Marg area of the capital.

According to police, the incident occurred  when the driver of the PCR van, identified as Constable Khimesh Singh, accidentally pressed the accelerator, causing the vehicle to mount a roadside ramp and hit the victim.

Following the accident, a police team immediately reached the spot to assess the situation and gather evidence.

“A road accident involving a Delhi Police PCR van took place in the Thana Mandir Marg area. One person died after the van, while climbing a roadside ramp, ran over him. The driver had accidentally pressed the accelerator. Police are currently at the scene, gathering information,” said a statement from Delhi Police.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of law, and both police personnel present in the van,an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and the constable, have been suspended pending further investigation.

“Both the ASI and the constable have been suspended. An FIR is being registered, and a medical examination of both officers will be conducted,” the police added.

Constable Khimesh Singh, the driver of the van, was later formally arrested. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
